Design begins with communication
Kate’s design philosophy begins with the importance of communication, fully appreciating what is needed. The expression of those needs must be both functional and beautiful - creating spaces not just to enjoy but also to live well. She does not ascribe to a single perspective or style, but brings her extensive design experience and understanding of proportion, texture, color and space to realize her clients’ aspirations. Kate’s strongest talent is the ability to collaborate with co-workers, consultants, and clients to assure design goals are met.
She was born on the Connecticut shoreline and has always been surrounded by a passion for aesthetics. Her father Barry Svigals, a prominent New Haven architect, and her mother Diane Svigals, an art gallery director, have both been strong influences on her exposure to the world of art and design.
She began her college career as a communications major, before deciding to complete a degree in interior design.
Kate started her career at the architecture firm Jacobs Wyper Architects of Center City Philadelphia; where she spent six years beginning as an intern, eventually becoming the sole and lead interior designer for the firm. She worked on numerous projects including education facilities and commercial workplace environments. She also maintained the office’s finish, furniture, and fixture library, enabling her to assist the entire office as needed on all projects.
In the summer of 2011 Kate departed for New York City to work in retail furniture sales and space planning, while also developing her own web store offering vintage décor and furniture. She returned to Philadelphia in 2013 where she teamed with a contractor to focus more exclusively on residential design projects.
Most recently Kate has worked for Guardian Insurance in their real estate department, working on test fits, space planning, and aiding in facility management communications.
